John Garrad

Drums/Percussion/Backing Vocals

John has been playing drums since he was 15. Having served his apprenticeship in punk and New Wave bands in  the late 70s and 80s in the Essex and London music scene, there was something of a hiatus in the 90s because of work and family commitments, but the early 2000’s saw John move to the Milton Keynes area and re-engage with music. Working in a variety of roles at The Stables music venue, this enabled John to restart his music career through courses and workshops. He eventually helped to form the garage punk bands Piggy Backs and Black Mud. John also hosted The Stables only foray into open mic events when he created the Over 2 U club night and ran it for several successful years.

He then decided to go to University which earned him a first class honours degree in music and a Masters degree in sound art. This led to a new career as a University Lecturer in music at The University of Northampton.

Whilst John has toyed with other instruments his passion has always been drumming, he has played in many bands in most genres and he continues to push himself.

John joined Tinkers Lane in 2022, his preference for groove based drumming meant he was the perfect fit for Ian’s rhythmic style of song writing.
